Nautilus Live: deep-sea exploration, live
Round-the-clock live footage of the ocean floor, filmed by the underwater vehicles of the research vessel E/V Nautilus and narrated by its science team.
Nautilus Live is the deep-sea exploration programme of the Ocean Exploration Trust (OET), which operates aboard the research vessel E/V Nautilus. What makes it special is that it streams the expedition over the internet around the clock: the ocean floor, the dives and life on board, with live narration from the science crew.
Anyone can watch video and real-time data from the remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) as they explore parts of the seabed that nobody has seen before. It is an open window onto a part of the planet we barely know.
OET was founded in 2007 by explorer Robert Ballard, famous for finding the Titanic. One of its aims is to inspire new generations in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM), which is why it brings teachers and students aboard as part of the crew.
The expedition and the area being explored change throughout the year, so check the website to see what is happening at any given time.
