Anthropeum: a daily art game with the Metropolitan Museum’s collection

A daily online game in which you guess when and where each of ten works of art from New York’s Metropolitan Museum collection was made.

Anthropeum is an online game that refreshes every day. It shows ten works of art from the Metropolitan Museum’s collection in New York, and you have to place each one in time and on the map: when and where it was made.

It was created by Matthew Chu, a University of Washington student, using the Met’s Open Access initiative, which offers images and data for nearly 500,000 works in its collection.

When you finish, the game tells you where you rank among the other players. It also has an educational side: after each answer it shows information about the work and links to its page at the Met.

An entertaining way to learn a bit of art history and geography in a few minutes a day.
